ADAMS classical guitar courses

There are two streams:

  • Learn for leisure
  • Sit for the classical guitar examinations
ADAMS offers the following external examinations:
  • Trinity Guild Hall London SA
  • Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music London SA
  • University of South Africa
The syllabi of the external examining bodies form the basis of exam preparation which includes technical studies, prescribed pieces, scales and arpeggios. 
ADAMS ensures that each candidate goes through the process of mastering left and right hand technique, speed development, tonal understanding and improvisation techniques. Reading, writing, and the ability to compose basic to advanced pieces.

Theory of Music - All Grades

Theory of Music

ADAMS provides theory of music education for the following examining bodies:

  • Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music
  • University of South Africa
  • Trinity Guild Hall

The theory of music examinations are offered four times per year during the months of March, May / June, August, and October. Theory is included with every practical registration.

Abraham Devar's Academy for Music provides study guides, workbooks, multimedia resource and discussion of past theory of music examination papers. Our online learning portal is accessible to registered learners.

Courses offered at Abraham Devars Academy for Music and Song

First semester courses start in January and end in June and the second semester courses start in July and ends in the first week in December. Students may register at any time during the year and study with our academy for a minimum period of 6 months.

While most of our learners take the practical and theory examinations, learners may learn for leisure.

The following practical Courses are offered currently at ADAMS

  • Metal Techniques in Electric Guitar
  • Jazz Studies in Guitar
  • Classical Violin including contemporary techniques
  • Classical Cello including contemporary techniques
  • Kit Drum
  • Soprano Saxophone
  • Alto Saxophone
  • Tenor Saxophone
  • Theory of Muisc

Generally learners are required to attend class for these courses with the exception of classical and contemporary guitar techniques and Theory of Music which is offered additionally as an online subject.

There are no special prerequisites for the courses above. Tuition is delivered in English. With the exception of Drum Kit and Piano learners are expected to bring their own instruments to class. Internet access is of vital importance in terms of accessing resource and media.

Should learners wish to hire an instrument for the course, this will be arranged.
