Courses at ADAMS are open to learners of all ages. There are some exceptions of course. Learners under the age of 9 years are required to meet with us for a general assessment before admission can take place.
Our courses range from basic to difficult and are open to adults and children.
How the practical courses work:
Courses are strategically designed to develop and enhance skills necessary to play an instrument effectively. While examination preparation is a large part of our training ADAMS has compiled its own resource to ensure that all the essentials of skills development are included in the course. The syllabi from the various examining bodies include technical pieces, scales, arpeggios and broken chords. Three to four songs need to be prepared for the practical examinations as well as an unprepared piece (sight reading), and general musicianship.
Success in the practical aspect of music is largely dependent on practice. Generally learners who practice regularly are likely to pass well in the examinations. Learners are expected to play along with the accompanist (tutor) regularly in order to ensure that their performance is of an acceptable standard. In such cases songs are chosen which are not in the examination syllabus but incorporates a contemporary feel. Two practical examinations are offered per instrument or voice annually.
How the theory of music courses work.
Theory of music is incorporated into the lesson plan and is generally not exclusive. We believe that theory of music should always be taught in the context of the instrument used in the course. Theory of music is offered from Grade 1 and in the case of Unisa pre-grade 1.
Vocal training includes the solfa notation which is widely used in choral performance. ADAMS is able to offer learners up to three theory examinations per year.

Theory of Music is also offered to learners who are unable to attend classes. Our learning portal is equipped to prepare learners for the certificate examinations. Our learning centre is equipped with study guides, discussion notes and forums and multimedia to enhance learning. Tutors discuss past examination papers and make it possible to achieve outstanding results.
